The Megane receives slight external changes to its appearance, including a revised V-shaped front grille and front bumper, a more prominent Renault diamond, and slimmer, tapered headlamps. At the rear, there are new light clusters and bumper.
Trim levels are altered slightly, too. Authentique models receive body-coloured door mirrors, and 'Flint' bumper and side rubbing strips are added to everything from Expression models upwards. Sport Tourer versions from Dynamique and upwards are given chrome-effect roof bars.
The most significant changes are the addition of a new 2.0-litre 150bhp diesel and an entry-level 106bhp diesel option on the Megane coupe/cabriolet. Prices for the latter begin at £19,110 in these models, and the new engine returns 56.5mpg on the combined cycle.
The new engine 2.0 dCi model is not scheduled to appear until May, but when it does, it will have 251lb ft of torque and will allow the Megane to cover the 0-62mph dash in 8.7 seconds â just 0.4sec slower than the 2.0T turbo petrol engine.
Orders for the new Megane are being taken from February1.
Renault is also adding a special edition to the new Megane range. The new car will cost from £13,250 for the Sport Hatch version and £13,750 for the hatchback, the same prices as the Dynamique version on which it is based.
Maxim models carry £450-worth of extras, including 17-inch alloy wheels and a 60-Watt CD/MP3 player. The new trim is offered with an 86bhp 1.5-litre turbodiesel, or a 11bhp 1.6-litre VVT petrol engine.
